According to a source, in the year 2013, over 1.1 million Koreans (mostly from South Korea) have chosen to reside in the US. Korean migration to the United States started in 1903 to 1905. The first immigrants were male labourers hired to work on sugar plantations in the state of Hawaii. These immigrants were followed by about 1,000 Korean women, referred as ‘picture brides’, in 1910 until 1924. Today, Koreans can be seen not only in Hawaii but in almost every corner of America, ‘The Melting Pot of Cultures’.
Not only Koreans, there are also a lot of Japanese in America. In fact, America is the second country with the biggest Japanese communities outside Japan. Do you know that one-third of the population of Hawaii have Japanese heritage? In addition to the mentioned state, there are also thousands of Japanese in California, Oregon, and Washington.
There are many reasons why people choose to migrate to another country. These include schooling and employment, among others. Well, this article is not geared towards knowing the real reasons why some Koreans and Japanese prefer to live in the United States. Instead, this article aims to provide information to these people as to where they could find grocery stores that would make their life in a foreign country a little more comfortable and ‘at home’.
Two of the most popular grocery stores are Daiso and H Mart. Daiso sells products from Japan while H Mart sells products made from Korea.
