Chirashi

Chirashi

Chirashi literally means as “scattered,” and it pertains to the way in which ingredients are laid out over the rice, and there are two ways to do this. It is dish up on plates or bowls with colorful toppings such as raw fish, shredded egg, nori and shiso . Chirashi sushi is sushi rice mixed with sweetly simmered carrots, lotus root, dried shiitake mushrooms and cuts of sashimi or kinshi tamago (julienned thin egg crepe). It’s also fun to incorporate seasonal produce or unexpected ingredients for a creative twist.

Some recipes use commercial sushi vinegar. It is frequently cooked for celebrating special occasions, such as festivals, birthdays, and so on. You can use your favorite toppings. Chirashizushi is the simplest, homiest, and most varied form of sushi.

Homestyle chirashizushi is a bit more slipshod. In making chirashizushi it should be taken care of especially when choosing ingredients that complement and contrast each other, but they are scattered over the entire surface of the rice so that guests can easily scoop up a portion into their own bowls that’ll have a good mix of color, texture, and flavor.

What’s most important in making chirashizushi is the rice. Use good quality of sushi rice; if you choose to use raw fish, then, they have to be really fresh and tasty! In everything you do or add put some love so that the output is very interesting. Sometimes rice of chirashizushi was served slightly warm and mixed with some toasted sesame seeds.

Chirashizushi is a very filling dish but really easy to make. The ingredients are often up to individual’s choice. Edomae chirashizushi is the version where uncooked ingredients are arranged on top of the sushi rice. If you don’t feel like adding raw fish, you can use alternative ingredients up to your own imagination that is accessible for you. There are no hard and fast rules about what ingredients to use, though thinly sliced omelet, simmered shiitakes, shrimp, and cucumber are all classic common ingredients.chi2
